Blade Runners
This unique trail race is back in July with a variety of distances to choose from...
If you fancy running beneath the 140m turbines at Whitelee Windfarm near Glasgow then you'll be pleased to hear that Run The Blades is back in July this year and early bird prices remain in place until the end of today (12 January).
Run The Blades has grown to become one of the largest trail running events in the UK. It is a unique event held exclusively within the UK’s largest onshore wind farm which is just a 20 minute drive from the centre of Glasgow. Organisers say: "Expect towering turbines, robust route signage, friendly marshals and support, the best race medal and amazing goody bag (we put the ‘good’ in goody bag), a vibrant Event Village with music, a cracking coffee van and food trucks."
The event incorporates three distances – 10K, half marathon and 50K ultramarathon and so makes trail running accessible to runners of all fitness and experience levels. These races are an ideal step up from road to trail, offering hard-packed yet challenging terrain.
The 10K race is up first on Friday (19 July) and is described as a perfect introduction to trail running around a relatively easy but rolling route. You’ll be hard pushed to find a 10K near Glasgow with scenery as good as this.
On Saturday (20 July) it is the turn of the ultra runners with the 50K race taking centre stage, this event bridges the gap between marathon and the longer ultras and offers competitors the opportunity to step up from road marathon to ultra trail running.
The Half Marathon is set for Sunday (21 July) and will prove a fantastic challenge for anyone looking to step up from the 10K distance.
