Just days after runABC revealed the route for London's newest half marathon in our weekend coverage, there's another significant development. Organisers of Run South London have contacted runABC to confirm that almost 10,000 places have already been snapped up for the inaugural event on Sunday 14 March 2027, leaving only a limited number of standard entries available.

The news follows our weekend story detailing the 13.1 mile course through south west London, including Wimbledon Common and the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Created by The Great Run Company and Merton Council, the new closed road event has clearly attracted considerable interest from runners keen to be part of its first edition.

Starting and finishing in Morden Park, the course takes participants through several of south west London's best known neighbourhoods, including Morden, Raynes Park and Wimbledon. The combination of closed roads, famous sporting landmarks and substantial green spaces gives the event plenty of appeal, although the runners themselves won't experience the course until next March.

But the latest development is all about demand. Almost 10,000 places taken more than four months before race day represents an impressive response to a completely new event. The organisers are also encouraging local spectators, volunteers, businesses and community groups to get involved, with the ambition of creating a genuine community occasion across the borough.

For runners considering Run South London as their spring half marathon challenge, the message is becoming increasingly clear. General entries have not yet sold out, but with only limited availability remaining, there may not be much time left to secure a place in the inaugural race.

You can grab one of those last places via the runABC race hub.
