A Half Marathon With Wimbledon At Its Heart
Run South London makes its debut on 14 March 2027, inviting runners to experience 13.1 miles of sporting heritage, green spaces and neighbourhoods across south west London...
Wimbledon is famous for its champions, but next March thousands of runners will have an opportunity to enjoy their own moment in the sporting spotlight. Run South London makes its debut on Sunday 14 March 2027, bringing a new closed road Half Marathon to one of the capital's best known sporting destinations.
With the route now revealed, attention turns to the experience awaiting runners who take on the inaugural 13.1 mile challenge. Delivered by The Great Run Company and Merton Council, the event starts and finishes in Morden Park, conveniently located close to Morden Underground Station.
The journey takes runners through Morden, South Wimbledon and Raynes Park before reaching Wimbledon itself. Here, the course passes alongside the All England Lawn Tennis Club, home of The Championships, Wimbledon. It's not every day that a road race gives participants the chance to run past a venue associated with some of the greatest names in world sport.
But there's considerably more to the route than tennis. Wimbledon Common provides a change of scenery, with runners passing the historic Wimbledon Windmill and enjoying the heathland and woodland surroundings before continuing through Wimbledon Village. The combination of busy neighbourhoods and substantial green spaces gives the event a distinctive character.
The organisers are also hoping that local communities will play an important part in the occasion, with spectators encouraged to support runners as they make their way through the borough and back towards Morden Park.
For anyone planning their spring racing calendar, Run South London presents an opportunity to be part of something new. The route is mapped out, the date is set and Wimbledon is preparing to welcome a different kind of sporting crowd.
Entries are available now via the runABC race hub.
