Icing on the Cake Run promises beauty and the sweet
An event for lovers of hilly half and full marathons.
Here is an event to get your teeth into...the Icing on the Cake Trail Run in the stunning Shropshire hills and the Long Mynd. How Hard Can It Be Events & CODRC are serving up this treat on Saturday 5 February 2022 where runners are guaranteed a tough but scenic race followed by refreshments which include cake.
Choose between a Half Marathon and full Marathon and complete a single lap or two laps in this National Trust area which is very popular with visitors. The Marathon starts at 8.30am followed by the Half Marathon at 9am, both of which head off from Carding Mill Valley.
Then the climbing begins on this waymarked course which winds its way up and down these hills and over the Long Mynd; on footpaths, grass, bridleways and road with some of the best views in the county. This is definitely a race for the mountain goat!
Whilst the route is marked runners are advised to have a map of the area along with a race vest, first aid kit, spare layer and a minimum of 500ml of water. There is an aid station on the course with drinks and snacks but participants are still required to carry sufficient fluids.
There is a mile long descent back into Carding Mill Valley then a mad dash over the finish line past the National Trust cafe, to be rewarded with a medal that looks good enough to eat. Recover with a drink and the culinary delights set out on tables before the drive home.
Get a flavour of the course below but watvh out for the sheep!
