There's a new 5K planned for this popular north east running festival...
A popular north east running festival has now added a 5K to its roster of events, the exciting development comes following the successful addition of a half marathon distance to the 2022 staging of the Run Banchory event.
This year's Run Banchory will take place on Sunday, 27 August with a 10K multi-terrain, half marathon multi-terrain and new 5K event all part of proceedings, not forgetting the kids as there will also be the usual 1K run for school pupils between primary 1 and 7.
The 10K and the half-marathon events predominately take place in the scenic Scolty/Blackhall forest area with organisers commenting: "Both race routes will cater for all running abilities but will definitely be known as a good test."
The new 5K will boast a generally a flat route that takes runners along Blackhall road before looping down to the riverside taking in beautiful views of the River Dee before returning to the King George V Park.
The 1K run will take place in the grounds of the King George V Park and the surrounding area. A brilliant way to get the kids involved in a healthy pursuit, and of course there will be medals, refreshments and a great community atmosphere.
Funds raised from Run Banchory help support the Banchory Outdoor and Active group, which aims to increase fitness in the local area. BOA’s current focus is on rejuvenating and increasing the size of the town’s derelict football pitches and improving access to the facilities when complete.
