Get Ready To Run Roon The Toon!

This popular 10K race is back in June...

Kilmarnock’s ‘Roon the Toon’ 10K is back this June (10th) – but you’d better be quick if you want a place as there are less than 200 spaces left for this popular summer event.

Also worth knowing is that any man who has ran under 31 minutes or woman who has run under 36 in the 10K distance over the last 12 months is entitled to a complementary entry to the race. Those who qualify should email organisers to claim their place mentioning where and when they achieved the time.

The famously ‘fast and flat’ course starts and finishes at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena in Kilmarnock, and heads, as the name suggests, ‘Roon the Toon’. The route also makes it perfect for the ‘non-competitive’ stroller roll, which starts at the back of the main field.

Scotland’s ‘best value goody bag’ will also be returning for 2023 containing a t-shirt, medal, Empire biscuit, free pint or glass of Prosecco and two tickets for a Kilmarnock FC home game, the bag itself is worth more than the price of entry.

Inverness Harrier, Sean Chalmers won the race in 2022 in a new course record of 29:59, while second placed James Donald of Dundee Hawkhill Harriers also broke the previous course record with his time of 30:04. It was a day for fast times as the third placed runner did the same with Michael Christoforou of Cambuslang Harriers running in 30:17.

The ladies race was just as fast with Fife AC’s Scottish international Annabel Simpson winning in 33:22, beating her 2021 course record time in the process!

Speaking about the success of the 2022 event, organisers said: “We were delighted with how it went. The Scottish Athletics officials said it was a superb atmosphere and that is good because that’s what we are about.

“Kilmarnock is a good place. We want people to come here. That’s what this event helps do. The difference this year was the quality of the field, particularly in the men’s race. The first eight all broke the previous course record."
