RUN-FEST Fit For An Olympian
Last call for Richmond RUN-FEST entries...
The 11th GoFundMe Richmond RUN-FEST returns this weekend (9-10 September) with a total of 7,000 runners competing in various distances, including the Family and Kids Mile races in Old Deer Park, Richmond.
The weekend kicks off on Saturday with the Kew Gardens 10K including US Olympian Jake Riley in the line-up. Riley, who finished 29th in the Tokyo Olympic Marathon, will be hoping to be leading the pack while using the race as preparation for the upcoming Berlin Marathon. Riley finished second to Galen Rupp in the 2020 US Olympic Marathon Trials in a PB 2:10:02 to book his place on the US team for the postponed Tokyo Olympics where he ran 2:16:26.
Clearly relishing the prospect of an outing in leafy Kew Gardens, Jake Riley said: “I’m looking forward to running around Kew Gardens in the build-up to the Berlin Marathon on 24 September. During lockdown, I watched the British Olympic Trials event so I know the course is fast, flat, and beautiful.”
A few entries were still available for the 10K on Saturday and the Half Marathon and Family Mile events on Sunday but the Richmond Marathon was fully subscribed as runABC South compiled this preview.
Richmond RUN-FEST is renowned for its Richmond Music Festival and Fitness Expo held in Old Deer Park which is free to enter for runners, supporters, and the general public.
Tom Bedford, Race Director, said: “We’re looking forward to celebrating our 11th year and continuing to be South West London’s largest charity fundraiser. This year our Kids and Family Mile moves to the Sunday so we’re in for an action-packed finish to the weekend. We still have places in the 10K, Half, and Mile races so there’s still time to join us!”
