Chelsea Burley Summer 5

Still time to sign up for the Chelsea Burley Summer 5

Trentham Running Club is celebrating their 30th anniversary with a new race, the Chelsea Burley Summer 5 on 22 August. There are only four days to go before this special event for a special charity.

Previously known as the Silverdale Dash, the Chelsea Burley Summer 5 is organised by Trentham Running Club and sponsored by Andrew Vickerman Event Timing. The club adopted The Chelsea Burley Trust as their official charity in 2015 and have held various events since then. This year marks their 30th anniversary and they decided to add the Chelsea Burley Summer 5 to their race series as part of their continuing support.

Matthew and Emma Burley set up the charity after their daughter Chelsea was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2012. Over a 7-year period she has undergone surgery, chemotherapy and recently proton beam radiotherapy, completing her final session on July 5 this year where she rang her end of treatment bell.

Only two days after finishing her treatment Chelsea helped at the Stoke on Trent Festival of Running, handing out water to thirsty (and grateful!) runners. She continues to make good progress with her physiotherapy and is a very determined young lady who is looking forward to going back to school and being with her friends.

The Chelsea Burley Summer 5 mile trail run is held on Thursday 22 August at 7pm from Silverdale Country Park, Newcastle under Lyme. All profits will be donated to The Chelsea Burley Trust to help fund research into children’s brain tumours.
