Families At Home Relay

Paula’s Families at Home need YOU!

Last week Events of the North launched a fun initiative for families looking to banish the lockdown blues. They took Paula Radcliffe’s ‘Families on Track’ concept and reworked it with the aim of keeping adults and children fit and entertained during this crisis.

Created by marathon star Paula Radcliffe, ‘Families on Track’ made its debut at the 2019 Durham City Run Festival to great success and was set to do the same this year until the coronavirus pandemic intervened. However, organisers Events of the North adapted to the situation by making a few changes, enabling families to take part but in their own homes.

Whether in the living room or out in the garden or yard, the aim is for families to choose their distance then work as a team to complete it. They can be competitive within their unit or up the ante and see how they compare against others in this community.

There are three distances to choose from – 1K, 3K and 5K and these can be run indoors or outside. Each family creates a team name, picks a distance then measures out their laps using any object close to hand. Each team member takes turns to run a lap until the chosen distance has been reached and everyone has to finish together.

They share photos or videos of their efforts on social media using #familiesathome and the winner will receive a personal message from Paula Radcliffe, and her family, along with Nike 'Families on Track' T-shirts.
