Floral Running
Hill runners and families welcome at Oldhamstocks for annual flower show and race...
Oldhamstocks, a picturesque village nestled in the Lammermuir Hills near Dunbar, is set to host its much-loved annual Flower Show and Hill Race on 16 August. The event combines competitive sport with community celebration, offering something for both athletes and families.
Organised by Dunbar Running Club, the hill race is a local tradition and covers a scenic 6.5-kilometre route with approximately 200 metres of elevation gain. Starting and finishing on a minor road opposite the village church, the course features a mix of terrain. Runners begin with 1.5K of quiet tarmac road before transitioning to a rough hill track that loops through the surrounding countryside. The final 200 metres return to tarmac, with one particularly steep section testing competitors’ strength and endurance.
Open to runners aged 15 and above, the race has drawn strong competitors over the years. The male course record of 26:43 was set by Angus Wright in 2022, while Julie Oswald holds the female record with a time of 31:29 from 2015.
Beyond the race, the day promises a full programme of family-friendly activities. The Flower Show itself opens at 1.30pm, featuring local crafts, stalls, home baking, and floral exhibits. Children’s races, a tug of war, and a dog show add to the festive atmosphere, making it a highlight of the local calendar.
