Running In Northumberlandia
Grab the chance to run in this unique north east setting...
Organisers of a unique 10K for the north east have once again been granted special permission to use Northumberlandia for their event. The Northumberlandia 10K Trail Race will take place on 13 July this year and Northern Fell Running Events are 'very proud to announce the return of their flagship race'.
Northumberlandia is a unique piece of public art set in a 46 acre community park with free public access and four miles of footpaths on and around the landform. The centrepiece of the park is Northumberlandia, a stunning human landform sculpture of a reclining lady. Made of 1.5 million tonnes of rock, clay and soil, she is 100 feet high and a quarter of a mile long.
The 10K offers a unique opportunity to race up and over Northumberlandia and also explore areas that are 'off limits' to the public. The event has been granted permission to use not only the land form itself but the surrounding countryside and former open cast site.
The adults 10K route will include hills, fast stone paths, soft trails, forest tracks and a sting in the tail! There will also be a children's fun run before the main event which will be a 1 mile loop of Northumberlandia starting at 6pm.
There will be a bespoke medal for all finishers and it is hoped that participants will stay and enjoy the café and stalls in the 'Event Village' after the race. The park itself will open late till 9pm.
