Jeffing Pacers
The founder of Jeffing has just heard about the Nonsuch parkrun 'Jeffers'...
Jeff Galloway is a former USA Olympian, current coach, and 'Jeffing' guru. The father of the run/walk/run method was delighted when he recently spotted that Nonsuch parkrun in Surrey provides Jeffing pacers for various run/walk intervals to suit all standards.
Jeff probably didn't realise they have been Jeffing down at Nonsuch parkrun since April 2022, when they started to provide Jeffing pacers on the first Saturday of each month to support walkers who wanted to add some running into their walking.
The Jeffing pacers use set run/walk and walk/run intervals to complete the 5K course in times from 30 to 50 minutes. Like the familiar running pacers, Jeffing pacers wear hi-viz and have their run-walk-run intervals pinned on their backs. The pacer’s job is to keep to their allotted intervals while encouraging and helping those around them to do the same.
The Jeffing programme at Nonsuch has become so well organised that they often provide up to eight variations of run/walk pace from 6:00 run/1:00 walk (30:00 pace for 5K) to 3:30 walk/30sec run (50:00 pace for 5K).
Nonsuch parkrun's top Jeffing tips are to run slow and walk fast while keeping the intervals consistent. The second anniversary of the Jeffing Pacer Team was celebrated at Nonsuch on Saturday 6 April, 2024 in this news article...
When Jeff Galloway shared his post on Facebook on Friday, 19 September 2025, he received a huge response with 6.5K likes and around 350 positive comments!
And all because of an initiative started at Nonsuch parkrun over three years ago!
