Runners set for a treat at Newhailes running festival

This Sunday, 25 November, sees the first running of the Newhailes 10K, 5K and Family Fun trail races.

Organised by Scurry Events on behalf of Newhailes House and Gardens, the new running festival aims to raise awareness of the recently opened Weehailes Playpark, the 86 acres of estate, the café and the 17th century Palladian villa that make up the National Trust for Scotland property near Musselburgh.

Although the main races are now only taking names for the waiting list, registration will remain open for any juniors (aged 11–15) wanting to run the 5k until Friday – subject to availability. Places will also be available online until then for the 1.6km family fun run, with limited entries available on the day. Children under 10 must run with an adult.

Organisers have made the most of the spectacular setting for the new event. While the 5k will keep runners on clearly marked off-road trails inside the grounds of the 86-acre estate, the 10k will take them outside the boundaries of Newhailes House and Gardens too. Both runs offer unique views of the stately home and the Forth.

The 1.6km family fun run will take runners of all ages around the villa itself as well as guide them through some park trails. The route will also venture alongside the ‘ladies’ walk’ through the Crown.

All proceeds from the fun run will form a charitable donation to the Newhailes Flower Garden Project.

All runners and spectators are welcome on Sunday. Hot and cold drinks and refreshments will be available in the Stables Courtyard café and at the Weehailes adventure park.
