There are exciting plans afoot to bring a series of women's only events to West Yorkshire, courtesy of She Strides Events. Already in the pipeline is the Atalanta Women Only 10K & 5K event which is scheduled for 19 May and later on in the year for those looking for even more of a challenge, there will be the She Strides Ultra 50K on 3 August.

Speaking about their events, a spokesperson from She Strides Events commented: "We are very excited to bring you the first ever women’s only races here in the heart of West Yorkshire. Our goal is to provide a safe space for women to exercise and discover their potential."

Up first, in May the Atalanta event will see runners flock to the area with Hebden Bridge taking centre stage. The carefully designed course will guide runners through the picturesque landscapes of West Yorkshire. Enjoy the scenic beauty as you challenge yourself in the company of like-minded women.

If you're not too clued up on Greek mythology, Atalanta was a sure-footed huntress. She agreed to marry anyone who could outrun her in a foot race and she only lost because Hippomenes dropped three golden apples and she stopped to pick them up.

The 5K route heads away from the town centre, teasing runners with a glimpse of the beautiful National Trust Hardcastle Crags before turning and heading back towards the town hall and finishing in the square. The 10K route starts with the 5K before turning off and joining the canal, coming through town to finish in the square.
