New Trail Race Gallops Into August

This new trail race has horse racing heritage at its heart...

A brand-new event is set to hit the Suffolk running calendar this summer as Newmarket Joggers AC launches an exciting trail race on 24 August. Uniquely tied to the region’s world-famous equestrian roots, the National Horseracing Museum Trail Half Marathon will start and finish at the prestigious namesake in the heart of Newmarket.

This inaugural event marks a rare opportunity for runners to explore the scenic trails that weave through the town’s iconic studs and stables, a landscape more familiar to thoroughbreds than trail shoes! Organisers say: "Designed by Alan Shand, the route offers a picturesque and memorable journey through the historic and rural surroundings that make Newmarket a global centre for horse racing."

Along the way, participants will pass a checkpoint at Cheveley Church, where refreshments will be available. All proceeds from the event will be going to local charities Newmarket Open Door and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Finishers can look forward to a race memento and prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female runners overall. With its blend of sport, history and charitable giving, this new trail race is sure to become a standout fixture in Suffolk’s running scene.
