New Races For Leeds
River views and craft brews await at this inaugural summer event for Yorkshire...
Runners in Yorkshire have a new scenic challenge to look forward to this summer with the debut of the AIRE Marathon and Half Marathon on 27 July. Hosted by Great Owl Running, the event will start and finish at the vibrant Piglove By The River in Leeds, inviting participants to take on a fast and flat trail course along the picturesque River Aire.
The route follows the Trans Pennine Trail, with the half marathon turning at 10.5K and full marathon runners continuing to just before Fairburn Ings before returning. Though not a closed-road race, the course offers well-maintained paths and gentle terrain making it ideal for both first-timers and those chasing a personal best.
Adding to the charm is the event hub at Piglove By The River, a welcoming beer garden located in Leeds’ Citu Climate Innovation District. After completing their run, participants can enjoy a complimentary pint of Piglove Brewing Co’s craft beer while relaxing at a riverside picnic bench - making it the perfect Sunday afternoon setting.
All finishers will receive a medal and drink with race t-shirts available as optional extras to minimise environmental impact and keep costs accessible for runners.
The AIRE Marathon and Half Marathon is the latest addition from Great Owl Running, a Yorkshire-based company known for putting on trail, ultra, fell and virtual races inspired by the local landscape. They say: "Our main goal is to offer fun, inclusive events based on some of the best trails the region has to offer."
