Get in the race spirit with ‘The Gin Run’
After wine marathons, beer miles, brewery runs and dramathons comes the next logical (slightly wobbly) step.
Archerfield Walled Garden in East Lothian has teamed up with four Scottish distilleries to launch a completely unique 5k event, The Gin Run (Saturday, 26 October).
Very definitely sitting in the ‘fun run’ camp, The Gin Run will offer participants a gin taster or perfect pour at each of the route’s four 1k markers. There will also be water stations – no mention of tonic – and live music along the way.
The route can be walked, run or jogged. Dogs are not permitted on the course, but as the organisers say, ‘they don’t like gin anyway’. After the race, runners will get an ‘epic’ goody bag and even more gin, in the form of a gin cocktail at the finish line.
The organisers told runABC Scotland online they’d love for runners and their supporters to stay after the event and enjoy the food and entertainment in the Archerfield Walled Garden courtyard: the Big Blu pizza van will be serving delicious wood fired pizzas, Funk Wagen, a DJ booth in a converted VW camper van, will be cranking out the tunes, plus all four gin distilleries involved in the run will be on hand to talk about their gin and sell their products.
As the focus of The Gin Run is on fun (and gin), there will be no timing, medals, t-shirts or prizes.
Registration can be made online until 19 October or until the race sells out. Numbers are limited to 350 and all runners must be over the age of 18.
On the day registration will only be available if places remain after 19 October and will cost £5 more than the £25 standard entry.
