New 10K Race at Great Cumbrian Run

Cumbria's leading Half Marathon since 1982 is back with a new distance for 2024...

2024 will see the 40th staging of Cumbria's biggest half marathon event - the Great Cumbrian Run! And to mark the occasion, organisers have announced that there will be a brand new 10K race joining proceedings on 6 October.

Organisers told us: "Alongside our traditional event, we're thrilled to announce the launch of our brand new 10K run for 2024, taking in the start and finish of the Great Cumbrian Run. Join us for a scenic route through Carlisle's iconic landmarks: the majestic Carlisle Cathedral, city centre, historic Carlisle Castle, and the beautiful parks, all culminating with a grand finish at the Sheepmount Stadium!"

In 2023 a new course was debuted and it was a hit with runners thanks to its fast profile and connection to spectators throughout the city centre and Bitts Park at the start then again heading to the finish. One and a half laps on the track were added at the end so spectators coulc stand in the centre and cheer finishers to their moment of glory.

Whether you're a seasoned runner looking to challenge your personal best, a casual jogger aiming to complete your first half-marathon or 10K, or someone passionate about embracing the exhilarating energy of the race, this could be your moment!

There are also two fun runs of 3.1 and 1 miles respectively, both finishing in Sheepmount Stadium! Organisers say: "It isn’t about Olympic level athletes aiming for a record time. It’s about mums with prams, dads with toddlers, groups running together, fancy dress, kid’s getting active but most importantly raising money for a well-deserved local cause of your choice."
