Take a meander this November 5th at Ascend Events' 18 mile trail run in Cumbria's Arnside and Silverdale Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Milnthorpe Meander is an undulating trail run, featuring many sites of interest.

Ascend Events is a small, grass roots race organiser which aims to share its passion for endurance events, the great outdoors and the Lake District with others. A spokesperson from the company said: "We took some popular long distance walking routes that had fallen in to disuse and relaunched them. They're tough. They're challenging. They're technical.

"We don't mark the routes (much) so map reading and navigational skills are required. But self-sufficiency just adds to the sense of achievement when you finish."

Located in an area of undeniable beauty, this undulating approx 18 mile route is extremely runnable and a perfect introduction to distance trail running. The race doesn't have any major climbs, but does include varied trails and takes in many of the local attractions including the Fairy Steps and Arnside Knott as well as Arnside Tower and the stunning Quakers Stang.

The route incorporates many of the same sections of trail as Ascend Events' February race, the Silverdale Circuit, but most are done in reverse so it works as a standalone event or in addition to the existing route. Organisers comment: "It's incredible how different it feels by going the other way, if anything this route seems to flow more naturally and is arguably easier to navigate."
