Middlesbrough Gets Ready To Party
There's still time to be a part of the Middlesbrough party this weekend...
This weekend will see runners party in Middlesbrough as the town's 10K, 5K and fun run events make their long-awaited return. People of all ages and abilities will celebrate in a carnival celebration of running, fundraising and Northern pride.
The action will kick off on Friday evening (2 September), with the Ali Brownlee 5K. Honouring the memory of popular broadcaster Ali Brownlee, who for over 30 years commentated on his beloved Middlesbrough FC. The event is expected to generate a huge boost for deserving local and national charities.
Encompassing a new route for 2022 and with a start and finish in Centre Square, the route will still incorporate the iconic Middlesbrough FC Riverside Stadium, whilst offering entrants a new challenge in the town.
Sunday (4 September) will see the return of both the Middlesbrough Fun Run and Middlesbrough 10K. Both events will start and finish in Centre Square, with the Fun Run open to anyone aged three years upwards; offering a perfect opportunity for families and friends to stay active and healthy together.
Runners are encouraged to fundraise for a cause close to their heart, to chase a PB or to simply take part for fun; regardless of the goal or reason. All ages and abilities are welcome to take part in what's set to be an exciting weekend of running - and there is still time to enter all events!
Councillor Stephen Hill said: "The Ali Brownlee 5k is one of the region's flagship family races, so it's fantastic to have it back after an enforced break due to the pandemic. It's also a fitting tribute to a true Middlesbrough character and 'Voice of the Boro' who is greatly missed by us all.
"Ali would love the setting among Middlesbrough's iconic landmarks and the new developments paving the way to the future, and we can't wait to welcome back runners, walkers and fund-raisers for countless good causes."
Entries are still open for the 5K and 10K.
