Michael Shelley and Charlotte Purdue line-up at Richmond Runfest 2018
Richmond’s popular two day running festival returns to Kew Gardens on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September and will see double Commonwealth gold medallist Michael Shelley and 2017 champion Charlotte Purdue on the 10K start line. Over 10,000 runners will join this high profile pair to take part in the realbuzz.com Richmond Runfest.
Purdue will be looking to retain her title in the Saturday Kew Gardens 10K and beat last year’s race time of 34:37, all in preparation for this year’s New York Marathon. Shelley will have his eyes set on becoming the new King of Richmond adding to his impressive achievements this year including gold at the Gold Coast in the Commonwealth marathon.
Runners and spectators can expect a top class sixth edition of this classic London autumn event - with a record breaking entry - as the Royal Botanic Gardens is transformed into a magical wonderland of Peter Pan, mermaids, lost boys, Captain Hook and the Pirates of the Jolly Rogger.
The festival is set to attract more charity runners than ever before – nearly 2,000 people lacing up and donning Peter Pan inspired fancy dress for causes close to their heart - and is on-course to top £2million for local and national charities, including headline Great Ormond Street Hospital, over the past six years
Organisers are promising a green approach with further steps to ensure a sustainable approach to the mass participation event including recyclable cups at water stations in Saturday’s 10k and Sunday’s half and full marathon.
New for 2018 is the Richmond 5K; The Pirate Run which is scheduled for 12.30 on Saturday 15 September.
Runners will leave their kit bag in the one of the poshest, most exclusive baggage tents in the world – the Kew Gardens national conservatory and will also enjoy the sights of the largest Victorian glasshouse, the stunning and newly re-opened Temperate House.
Entries are still open for the brand new 2018 Richmond 5K; Pirate Run, Saturday kids mile and family mile. Find out more at the event website.
