Melmerby 10K Road Race

Make the most of Melmerby 10K course this May

Registration is free of charge for this scenic route

In what is a generous gesture, the organisers of the Melmerby 10K Road Race have issued an open invitation to run their 10K course in May, free of charge. This is a provisional schedule at present due to lockdown 3.0 and may have to be moved to later in the year depending upon the situation.

The Melmerby 10K Road Race & 3.5K Fun Run is a long-standing and well organised event with the motto “Fun, Fast and Friendly”. Held on an undulating one lap course that starts and finishes in the picturesque village of Melmerby, north of Ripon it has something to offer every runner whatever their ability. Hellenia Healthfoods have been the main sponsor for the last three years and their support is much appreciated.

Sadly, this year’s race was cancelled as a result of the pandemic but all is not lost as the Melmerby 10K team have come up with an alternative that promises to be safe and enjoyable. Registration is free and runners choose their preferred day and time to complete the 10K on the actual course, following direction arrows and warning signs along the way. All participants get a recorded time. In regard to social distancing; the organisers will monitor the number of entries to ensure small groups only. Prizes are courtesy of Hellenia Healthfoods.

This isn’t a virtual race. Entrants have the opportunity to run the Melmerby 10K course whilst observing the rules about outdoor sport and large gatherings.

In normal times, this race attracts runners from across the country which as Race Director John Burgess says: “It’s our course and the warm, welcoming hospitality that makes our event so successful.” He hopes this Plan B has a similar effect.

The organisers will provide updates on their Facebook page.
