Maidenhead Half Calling All PB Hunters

There are less than three weeks left to secure a number for the popular Maidenhead Half Marathon on Sunday, 2 September. The Race Organiser has informed runABC South that entries at £30 (£28 affiliated) are still available and last minute applications can be made on the race weekend with a £3 surcharge.

Maidenhead Half Marathon is held on fully closed roads and enjoys a fast, flat course that was voted third best for PB potential in 2013, with a total elevation of 111 feet. The town centre start soon opens out into the beautiful Berkshire countryside roads on the route beside River Thames to Cookham and back.

The race village is situated in the Town Hall car park right beside the Start/Finish gantry and there is plenty of free parking in public car parks nearby. Race packs are collected in Nicholson Walk Shopping Centre on Saturday or the race village on Sunday morning until 9:15am. This will be the 8th edition of the race and The Race Organiser is hoping for around 2,000 starters.

Last year's winners were Paul Molyneux (Springfield Striders, 1:07:52 PB) and Helen Davies (Ipswich Jaffa, 1:17:56). The remarkably consistent Paul Molyneux, who also represents the Army and Harrow AC, has run below 70-minutes for the past 10 years but Maidenhead 2017 was a lifetime best. Helen Davies' own PB (1:12:35) was set at Bath in 2012, the year she ran 2:34:11 at London Marathon.

The above elite results and the 169 athletes who finished ahead of Vince Riviere of the Xempo Pace Team (1:30:00) – how's that for pace judgement? – will testify to the possibilities for fast times on this course.

Spectators are well catered for with town centre shops and cafes, food and drink at the race village, plenty of vantage points on the route and the opportunity to take part in the Family Fun Run.

Maidenhead Half Marathon has justifiably built a reputation for impeccable organisation, enthusiastic spectator support, friendly marshals and welcoming race crew. There is an extensive prize list that encompasses age-group awards and first local (male and female).
