Lauren Charlton 'glides' to a win at Uttoxeter Half
It was a smooth display of running by talented young athlete Lauren Charlton at Sunday’s (5 May) Uttoxeter Festival of Running. She made short work of a tough half marathon course and in the words of one spectator 'glided by'!
The Newcastle (Staffs) AC runner faced stiff competition in the Half Marathon with many entrants battling for those all-important points as part of the North Staffs Road Runners Association (NSRRA) programme of races. The Uttoxeter Half Marathon was the sixth race in the series.
A 319-strong field that was sent on their way at 10.30am from Uttoxeter Race Course. They faced a scenic yet hilly route and in cooler conditions compared to last year’s heatwave, with help from a team of pacers from Stoke FIT. The event was organised by Uttoxeter RR and included a 10K and 2K Junior Race as well as the Half Marathon.
Lauren Charlton was first past the post in the women’s race in 1:28:25, over three minutes ahead of teammate Michelle Buckle who was second in 1:31:29. Jenny Laing of South Derbyshire RR was third in 1:31:36.
Liam Bradbury of South Derbyshire RR was the overall winner in 1:17:17 followed by Daniel Soltys of Stone MM in 1:19:00. Neil Tapp of Boalloy RC came third in 1:20:30.
David Allen of Cheadle RC won the 10K in 39:00; Katie Brough of Vale Royal AC was the first female in 40:20.
The half marathon finishers were presented with a new, unique medal and a technical t-shirt. There were medals for the Junior 2K and 10K finishers and a ‘thank you’ to everyone involved in making the event a success.
