Lake Vyrnwy Running Festival

Welsh Trail-Bit

Stunning trail routes are guaranteed at this summertime event in Mid-Wales...

The Lake Vyrnwy Running Festival is set to return in June 2025, bringing together a vibrant community of runners of all ages and abilities. Whether for fitness, competition, charity or simply the joy of crossing the finish line, this festival offers an unforgettable experience against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Vyrnwy in Powys, Wales.

Taking place over two days, on Saturday, 28 June and Sunday, 29 June, the festival features a 5K night run on Saturday and an 11K morning race on Sunday. Participants can choose to tackle one race or take on both for the ultimate weekend challenge.

The routes offer a blend of terrains, from fast footpaths and grassy trails to stony sections and tarmac, ensuring a thrilling and varied experience for all trail runners. Steep climbs reward runners with spectacular panoramic views, while fast downhill sections add to the excitement. The course winds through exclusive areas of the Lake Vyrnwy Estate, providing access to scenery rarely seen by the public.

Organisers told us: "At the finish line, runners will be welcomed with unique finisher medals and post-race goodies to celebrate their achievement. As always, the festival promises a fantastic atmosphere in one of Wales’ most stunning natural settings."

Runner Stuart, who took part in a previous edition, praised the event: “This event was great, well-organised but, more importantly, organisers focused on the people involved. The attention to detail was off the scale.”
