The Beautiful Run
Running doesn't get more scenic than this...
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it is hard to argue with the sentiment behind Kielder Marathon's 'Britain's Most Beautiful Marathon' tagline! The event may well be fast approaching with an early October date, but there is still time for you to be part of race day - whether you decide to run a 10K, half marathon or the full 26.2 miler.
Taking place on 7/8 October the scenic event has something for everyone thanks to the varying distances on offer, but if you are looking for something different then you could always try the off-road duathlon that is also on the itinerary.
If you've already got some training in the bank and fancy it, the marathon's route follows an almost entirely off-road course around northern Europe’s largest man-made lake, Kielder Water which is a stunning backdrop for both competitors and spectators.
The Half Marathon is the perfect challenge for those looking to step up from a 10K, but with time running out, if a 10K is all the challenge you need, or want then the Kielder 10K which runs round the stunning Bull Crag Peninsula of Kielder Water is ideal. It is a stunning course with runners enjoying the beautiful surroundings as they make your way round the course.
In 2022 runners were blessed with glorious sunshine as they turned out in force to take part in the weekend's activities. The story of the day though was the husband/wife win in the marathon race. Yes, Kyle Greig crossed the finish line in just 2:45:57 with wife Debbie taking first in the women's race in 3:07:12. Kyle had bought Debbie her place for their anniversary and announced that her gift was to have a ‘run around the woods’!
