The Kids Are Aareet

There's a huge community element to Great North Run and Great North Junior & Mini Run is the perfect example

The countdown is on to the UK’s biggest and best kid’s running event, as the Junior and Mini Great North Run returns on Saturday 10 September.

Part of the unbeatable Great North Run weekend celebrations, the Junior and Mini Great North Run gives our youngsters a taste of the big event day experience. As a standalone Saturday event, the entire day is dedicated to celebrating future running stars and letting them take centre stage. There’s nothing quite like the sight of thousands of happy, smiling, active kids racing around the iconic Newcastle Gateshead Quayside.

Great Run are pulling out all the stops to make the kids event a day they won’t forget, with an enhanced start line atmosphere, on-course entertainment and ensuring that they get that epic finish line feeling. Get a little taster here:

They have also revealed their brand new Great Run mascot… Tyney the Tortoise! With a beautiful Tyne-Bridge-like shell, a passion for running and living a healthy, active lifestyle, Tyney is your very own hero in a half shell. Tyney will be there on the day to cheer runners on from start to finish, with high fives, funky dance moves and one awesome entrance all guaranteed.

Meet Tyney 2022

On top of an incredible sense of achievement, all Junior and Mini runners will receive their impressive medal and snazzy finishers t-shirt as part of their entry fee.
