John Muir Way Ultra Nocturnal

The John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra is a six hour trail running challenge held entirely after dark near North Berwick. Runners repeatedly tackle an approximately 5K off road loop, aiming to cover as much distance as possible before the six hour limit, with both solo and relay options available.

Each lap follows a well marked trail route before returning through the event base, where runners can access their kit, food and support before heading out again. Relay teams of up to three can share the challenge, while solo runners can continue accumulating laps throughout the evening at their own pace.

The repeated loop format gives runners the freedom to set their own target, from completing a first night running challenge to pushing beyond ultra distance. Music and lights at the event base add to the nocturnal atmosphere, while the combination of darkness, trail terrain and six hours of running creates a distinctive endurance event on the East Lothian coast.
