Action from Jimmy Irvine 10K

Sunny day for Harriers at Jimmy Irvine 10K

It was appropriate that local rivals Bellahouston Harriers should take home the men's and women's team prizes at Bellahouston Road Runners' Jimmy Irvine 10K on Sunday (17 November). The autumn event pays tribute to one of the Road Runners' founding members but Jimmy Irvine was also a very successful Harrier for many years.

It was Jimmy himself who sent the runners on their way on a bright crisp morning where a 600 plus field were tested by an undulating and compact 2 and a half lap course around historic Bellahouston Park.

A strong showing of top club runners meant healthy competition at the head of affairs but it was Cambuslang Harrier Alasdair Campbell (32:09) who prevailed ahead of Bellahouston Harrier Gregor Yates (32:57) and Kilbarchan AAC's Robbie Ferguson (33:03).

Leeds City's Lorna Young (36:09) was fastest woman with Fife AC's Sheena Logan (36:59) and another Bellahouston Harrier Kristina Greig (40:34) completing the podium places.

Kilbarchan's Julia Wylie recorded the midpoint time of 50:18 and the field closed on 1:29:46.

BBC Radio Scotland's Bryan Burnett was in PA action and his familiar voice brought a big race feel to the occasion. Bryan's contribution and a crack team of officials and marshals ensured a great morning's racing. The celebrated post-race buffet was worth queuing for while the 2019 T-shirt was another collector's item.
