Move Your Way!

This is not just a run, but a chance to take part in something supportive and genuinely different...

A brand new inclusive running event is set to make its debut this summer, as the Viking 1,2,3,4,5K invites people of all abilities to 'move your way' in Gainsborough on Saturday 27 June. Organised by Curly’s Athletes in partnership with West Lindsey District Council, the event has been created with a clear focus on accessibility, particularly for those living with long term health conditions or facing barriers to getting active.

Taking place from The Venue at the Roses Sports Ground in Gainsborough, the event will follow an out and back route along the River Trent. Participants can choose to complete anything from one to five kilometres, with the freedom to decide their distance on the day and even change it mid event if they wish.

There is no official timing, and the emphasis is firmly on participation, enjoyment and personal achievement rather than competition. Entrants are encouraged to walk, wheel, jog or run at their own pace, take breaks when needed and simply enjoy the experience in a supportive environment.

Organisers told us: "The concept was inspired by members of the local community who have already overcome significant challenges to stay active, we wanted to create something that feels welcoming to everyone, including those who may not usually consider entering a running event."

The riverside route will feature multiple turnaround points, helping to create a lively and encouraging atmosphere, with participants supported throughout by volunteers and cheer stations. At the finish, all participants will receive a Viking themed medal, along with post event treats and a chance to celebrate their achievement together.

The event also carries a strong local connection, with Gainsborough’s rich Viking history providing the inspiration for the theme. The town was once a key Viking base and briefly served as a capital of England under King Sweyn Forkbeard, adding an extra layer of character to the day.
