Holmfirth 10K

Holme Valley Stunner

Rolling hills and scenic moorland guaranteed at this autumn 10K...

Test out your 10K road racing abilities in the beautiful area of Hade Edge in Holmfirth this autumn by taking part in the scenic Holmfirth 10K on 13 October.

The 10K race evolved from the Holmfirth 15; a popular fixture in the road calendar which was first held in 1968. 2022 saw the introduction of a new course which aimed to show off the beauty of the Holme Valley and surrounding areas.

Organisers say: "If you like flat, fast road races in urban areas then this might not be the race for you. If however you like running in stunning countryside surrounded by rolling hills and moorland whilst pushing yourself on what is a challenging yet enjoyable course then we've got you covered!"

2024 will see a slight variation to the course at the start and finish. The race now begins on Dunford Road in Hade Edge and climbs gently up to Harden as before. It then drops down to Winscar and runs along the edge of the Reservoir before a second climb brings you up from Dunford Bridge on Winscar Edge.

A very quick final 2K brings runners back down into Hade Edge where the race finishes with a lap of the recreation ground. The course is undulating but very runnable, and features fantastic views over Winscar Reservoir, Thurlstone Moor and beyond.

The race also raises money for charity, organisers say: "We are proud to support The Kirkwood, a hospice which provides specialist palliative care for the terminally ill in Kirklees. A donation from the race proceeds will be made to The Kirkwood."
