The Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill Trail Runs are organised by Scurry Events in one of Edinburgh's most scenic nature reserves. The event features 5K and 10K trail races alongside a 1.2K festive fun run, bringing together runners of different ages and abilities for a day of outdoor running.
The 5K and 10K follow separate single lap routes starting and finishing at Hermitage of Braid House, climbing up and over Blackford Hill. Runners encounter woodland trails, grassy sections and uneven paths, with challenging hills and views across Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth. The shorter festive fun run follows the main drive towards the lodge house and back, offering a gentler option for children and families.
Both trail races are clearly marked and marshalled, with prizes for leading finishers and refreshments after the run. Children taking part in the festive fun run receive an elf hat to wear and keep, with proceeds supporting South Morningside Primary School and the Friends of the Hermitage and Blackford Hill. The event combines challenging trail running with a welcoming community atmosphere.
