10K With A Side Of Chips

Head to the coast for this early June 10K...

Head to the UK's seafood capital for a race that will undoubtedly finish with a side order of fish and chips - the Grimsby 10K; 2023 will be the 8th year for this popular coastal 10K with race date set for Sunday 4 June.

Organisers promise that the route is flat and fast but caters for all running abilities, from the seasoned club runner to newbie runners who will love the camaraderie around the fantastic route, they tols us: "After the Great Grimsby Town Hall start, runners will head out on some main roads through the town and pass through some great communities who support you all the way.

"There is then a great stretch (we think this bit is ever so slightly downhill!) along Peaks Parkway where runners will come across the Equans Mad Mile section. In this section, if they choose, those taking part can try to run a fast time in this mile, there will be prizes!! If not then just enjoy the route."

There will be a spectacular finish line event at the picturesque Victorian People's Park in the heart of the town, where participants will be welcomed back with music, entertainment and a real carnival atmosphere.

Speaking about the support runners can expect, organisers said: "The local community give endless support at this race, in the past they have come out with hosepipes and drinks to cool runners down! To get you around the route there will also be lots of music, bands, entertainment, three water stations, jelly baby station and a fireman’s hose to cool you down, kindly supplied by the local Humberside Fire & Rescue."

In 2022 the race was won by William Strangeway of Lincoln Wellington AC who completed the distance in 31:55 and a mad mile time of 5:04 while first female home was Hallamshire Harrier, Laura Smith who clocked 35:05 and 5:36 for the mad mile.
