Thirty five thousand runners, 100,000 spectators and one unforgettable weekend in Glasgow. The AJ Bell Great Scottish Run enjoyed its biggest staging yet in October 2026, and attention is already turning to the next edition, with entries open for Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October 2027.
The remarkable 2026 weekend brought runners of all ages and abilities onto the streets of Scotland's largest city. More than 2,000 youngsters got proceedings underway at Saturday's Junior and Mini Great Scottish Run on Glasgow Green, before Sunday's 10K and Half Marathon transformed the city into a huge celebration of running.
There were outstanding performances at the front of the field. Central Athletics Club's Jamie Crowe claimed the men's Half Marathon title in 1:03:27, while Katrina Ballantyne of Leeds City Athletic Club won the women's race in 1:13:33. Kilbarchan AAC's Lewis Hannigan took the men's 10K honours in 29:32, with Edinburgh AC's Nancy Scott winning the women's race in 33:27.
But the numbers only tell part of the story. From runners raising money for charities close to their hearts to thousands tackling their first major event, Glasgow's famous enthusiasm was evident throughout. Live music, entertainment zones and enormous crowds helped create an atmosphere that has become one of the event's defining attractions.
So what can runners expect in 2027? The Great Scottish Run returns on Sunday 3 October, with the Junior and Mini events scheduled for Saturday. Both main races will start on St Vincent Street and finish on Glasgow Green, with the Half Marathon again taking runners through the city's south side and green spaces.
The organiser has already opened entries for both distances, giving runners plenty of time to prepare for an autumn challenge. Whether it's a first 10K, a Half Marathon personal best or simply another opportunity to experience Glasgow at its energetic best, there's a full year of anticipation ahead.
After the extraordinary scenes of 2026, the question now is how Glasgow will follow its biggest running weekend yet. One thing is certain: the city won't be short of enthusiasm
