New Course For Great Cumbrian Run

Carlisle's half marathon is back this autumn with a new course to boot...

The countdown is on! With less than two months to go, excitement is building for the 39th Great Cumbrian Run. Whether you're a seasoned runner looking to challenge your personal best, a casual jogger aiming to complete your first half-marathon, or someone passionate about embracing the exhilarating energy of the race, this could be your moment!

And there is another reason to be excited as this year will see the race debuting a new course. Speaking about the change, organisers said: "The old course has changed considerably with new houses and shops making areas impossible to marshal safely. The new course is an officially measured course with very few twists and turns which make it very fast and will allow spectators to see family and friends throughout the city centre and Bitts Park at the start then again heading to the finish.

"We have added 1.5 laps on the track so spectators can stand in the centre and cheer finishers and be with them at the finish. We think you’ll all be pleasantly surprised."

This is above all, a run that is strictly for fun and it’s all about relaxed exercise, accomplishing personal goals, raising money for a worthwhile cause, and having a laugh in the process.

There is the half marathon itself, but there are also two fun runs of 2.8 and 1.3 miles respectively. Organisers say: "Our event is about mums with prams, dads with toddlers, groups running together, fancy dress, kid’s getting active but most importantly raising money for a well-deserved local cause of your choice."
