Sir John Talbot's School Whitchurch 10K Medal

Gold Star For Whitchurch 10K

It was back to school in the Shropshire market town of Whitchurch last Sunday (8 April) for a rising star in the 10K world. Sir John Talbot’s School Whitchurch 10K was on top form...

This event was launched in 2017 to critical acclaim and since then, has gone on to become a highly respected and popular 10K despite its relative infancy. Furthermore, it won gold for the ‘Best 10K West Midlands' in the regional Running Awards at the end of 2017 and has been shortlisted for a national award.

Robert Cartwright of Wolverhampton & Bilston AC was first across the line in 35:26. Robert Weston was second in 35:42 with Jamie Lambie third in 36:04.

Sue Siddi was the first lady in 38:45 followed by Rachel Coupe of Telford AC in 39:47. Leah Leonard of local club Whitchurch Whippets was third in 41:21.

Local legend Kathy Ling of Wrekin Road Runners finished in 1:47:01.

Held on closed roads in the historic town of Whitchurch, the runners set off at 10am from the school and followed a mostly flat course apart from a few short, sharp hills. A children’s fun run was held at 9am on the school sports field and with a range of distances depending upon age, ranging from 100m for 3-4 years to 1600m for 13-14 year olds.

Every finisher received a T-shirt, medal and an attractively presented goody bag courtesy of Polka Dot Travel.

Grocontinental sponsored the race for a second time and the prize list was a testament to their generous support. A minimum of 50% of the race proceeds are donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, the charity partner for the second year in a row.
