V Ultra Alps Challenge

Alpine Ultra Virtual Challenge for high flying girls

Girls Run The World's latest event hits the heights

Following on the heels of their highly popular 30-day Race Shape Challenge and North versus South virtual 5K challenge as reported in runABC online Girls Run The World (GRTW) will head for the hills in August for a month-long GRTW V Ultra Alps 2020 challenge, sponsored by Salomon.

The free to enter 31-day virtual running challenge around the Alps runs throughout August and the trail running challenge will be accompanied by online training resources designed to help increase ethnic diversity and women’s participation in trail running.

Participants will virtually tackle the 106-mile Ultra Trail de Mont Blanc (UTMB) route over a maximum 31 days but there is also the option of completing a week-long race challenge, which will run from 10-16 August, with hard-earned prizes for the greatest ascent over the month and the fastest woman to complete 106 miles in the week!

According to a report by Run Repeat, women make up just 20% of participants in trail events in the US and Europe. Only 11% of recreational runners hail from BAME backgrounds. GRTW virtual challenge will keep women of all backgrounds motivated and inspired, regardless of level or ability, providing support in trail running, navigation, safety and more.

GRTW founder and CEO Rachael Woolston said: “In last year's Ultra Trail de Mont Blanc, only 11% of those who took part were women. Our target is to get 5,000 women out on the trails, whether it's a local park, woodland, or national park during August. During the challenge, runners will be able to see where they are on the ‘virtual’ route and the final leader board will reveal their position”.

GRTW is the first online training portal created by women for women. Creating online programmes to support women in running and triathlon goals. They offer programmes from strength and yoga to physiotherapy, rehabilitation and more.
