Away from the start at the Abbott Trail Run

Abbott Trail Run ready for the off-road again

Annual charity event returns after a two year break.

If you go down to Hopwas Woods today you’re sure of a hilly surprise... and stunning views across Staffordshire at the Abbott Trail Run. Scheduled for Sunday 31 July participants can look forward to a challenging course, medal and a BBQ.

The Abbott Trail Run is hosted by Tamworth charity Simon’s Heroes and all profits from this event will go towards improving the lives of children with life-limiting illnesses. Funds have been used to purchase specialist medical equipment, specially adapted bikes, soft play toys and trips to Disneyland amongst many others for the benefit of children and their families.

This event, like so many others was affected by the pandemic, but the good news is it is back in 2022 with a choice of 5K and 10K and it has something to suit all tastes. Both races are chip timed and on a route that is a mixture of canal towpath, dirt tracks, single tracks and footpaths which includes the Coventry canal. There is climbing and short sharp descents through areas of beautiful scenery with efficient marshals to cheer everyone on whilst ensuring they are running in the right direction!

Spectators can avail themselves of refreshments/BBQ as they wait for their runner to finish. Once over the line, every runner will receive a medal and goody bag then if their legs will let them, relax and recover.

The weather is always a factor so participants can expect anything from hot and dry to wet and windy – both of which will determine shoe type on the day. Anyone wishing to try out the hills of Hopwas can do so via the Abbott Trail Run online booking form.
