Free recces for future Calderdale Way races

Cannonball Events, organisers of the Calderdale Way Races, are offering runners the opportunity of a course ‘recce’ before tackling the ultra and trail marathons next year. The guided trail runs will take place on Saturday 9 and 23 November and cover large sections of both races.

Famed for its iconic landmarks, immense scenery and runnable hills, the trails and fells of the Calderdale Way are a favourite among runners and walkers from the North of England. It offers stunning views and takes in some of the most beautiful parts of the South Pennines.

The Calderdale Way Races, scheduled for 8 June 2020, provide the ideal opportunity to explore the rich scenery on offer. Runners can take part in either an ultra, which entails 52.8 miles and over 2100 metres of ascent, and the 27 mile race, which involves 1088 metres of ascent.

Considering how tough both events are, the recces are the perfect preparation for those who have either entered or thinking of doing so. The first, on Saturday 9 November, follows the entire route of the Trail Marathon, while two weeks later, participants will follow the ultra for approximately 26 miles.

The recces are hosted by seasoned ultra runners with good navigation skills and familiarity with the entire route. Those taking part will need to bring: a full waterproof with hood and taped seams; spare top; warm hat and gloves; whistle and compass; headtorch; fully charged mobile phone; map of the route; and sufficient food and drink for a day of running.

The Calderdale Way Races come from the Cannonball Events team, who are also behind the popular Rother Valley 5K / 10K, Ron Hill Accrington 10K and City of Manchester 5K series.
