Fountains Abbey Wild Trail Runs 2027

Nine Centuries Of History And A Wild Running Adventure!

Fountains Abbey Wild Trail Runs returns on 28 February 2027, offering three distances through the spectacular grounds of a Yorkshire World Heritage Site...

The monks who founded Fountains Abbey in 1132 could hardly have imagined hundreds of runners exploring their surroundings nearly 900 years later. Yet that's exactly what's in store when Fountains Abbey Wild Trail Runs returns to this remarkable North Yorkshire setting on Sunday 28 February 2027.

Organised by Wild Deer Events, the race made its debut in 2026 and is already establishing itself as an attractive addition to the Yorkshire trail running calendar. With 5K, 10K and Half Marathon distances available, participants can choose their own adventure through one of Britain's most celebrated historic landscapes.

The courses incorporate sections of the Deer Park, Studley Royal Water Garden and the magnificent ruins of Fountains Abbey itself. The abbey's towering medieval remains provide a spectacular contrast to the surrounding woodland, parkland and landscaped gardens, creating a setting that few running events can match.

The estate's UNESCO World Heritage status reflects its extraordinary combination of medieval architecture and 18th century landscape design. For runners, that means an opportunity to experience far more than another woodland trail, with changing scenery and centuries of history accompanying them along the way.

Four legged companions can join the adventure too. The event is canicross friendly, allowing one well controlled dog per runner, provided it remains on a lead throughout. All three distances are chip timed, with a three hour cut off, and finishers receive a bespoke medal, Wild Deer merchandise and refreshments.

With a choice of distances and a location that is an attraction in its own right, Fountains Abbey promises a memorable February outing for trail runners of different abilities.

Entries are now open, with runners able to secure their place through the runABC Race Hub.
