Floyd on top at Rodbaston 10K
Obstacles before and during the race didn’t put Daniel Floyd off his stride at Saturday’s (29 September) Rodbaston 10K as he held off Harry Cresswell to win this cross country race in Staffordshire.
The race was due to begin at 11am; however, an accident on the M6 motorway caused it to be closed between junctions 12 and 13 and delayed many of those taking part. Race organiser Ashley Hodgkins of Mash Running updated entrants about this situation and advised them to find an alternative route. He also delayed the start of the race to 11:15am to allow people time to arrive at the venue for the race.
Everyone was greeted with autumnal sunshine and a 10K route complete with rolling fields, woodlands, stiles, tracks and trails and water. There are small changes made to the course each year but it remains a challenge for anyone who enters.
Daniel Floyd of Lichfield RC was first across the line in 39:42 followed by Harry Cresswell of Wolverhampton & Bilston AC in 40:29. David Mole of Tipton Harriers was third in 41:15. A special mention of U18 Tyler Hawley from Wolverhampton & Bilston AC with the youngster holding his own in a strong field to finish fifth in 41:40.
Another good result for Wolverhampton & Bilston AC in the women’s race as Victoria Mackay took the crown in 44:41. Jackie Bradshaw of Halesowen ACC was second in 45:18 and Veronika Ulicna of Chris Jewkes RC third in 47:57.
Penkridge Runners won the Biggest Team category.
