Edinburgh Marathon entry deadline approaching fast
Organisers of Edinburgh Marathon have just announced that standard entries to the event are close to capacity and are expected to close at midnight on Sunday, 6 January.
After standard entries close, runners will only be able to enter the marathon with a charity place. The event has sold out every year since 2008.
Next year’s Edinburgh Marathon will take place on Sunday, 24 May 2020 and will attract thousands of runners from the UK and beyond, keen to take part in one of the flattest and fastest marathons in the UK.
Its 26.2-mile route starts on Potterrow, the Old Town heartland of Edinburgh University, before heading north over the historic High Street and down The Mound. Participants will then carry on past the Scottish National Gallery and into Princes Street Gardens, with the iconic Edinburgh Castle as their backdrop.
The route then takes in the Scott Monument, before heading down the Royal Mile and towards Holyrood Park, the Scottish Parliament and Royal Palace before turning east towards the dramatic East Lothian coastline. The marathon finishes in Pinkie Playing fields, Musselburgh.
Second only to London in terms of size in the UK, Edinburgh Marathon Festival now has 11 races on offer, guaranteeing something for everyone from seasoned runners to kids just starting out on their running journey.
Edinburgh Marathon Festival will kick off on Saturday 23 May at Holyrood Park with a 10K, 5K and six junior races. On Sunday 24 May the Edinburgh Marathon, Edinburgh Half Marathon and Team Relay start from the heart of Edinburgh City.
