Tayside Trail Racing
Head to Perthshire for a fantastic August trail race...
Leave the pavements behind and run wild on the banks of the mighty River Tay this August at the Drummond Hill 10K Trail Run which is set to take place on 19 August.
Starting at the Kenmore Sports Ground near Taymouth Castle, the off-road (‘very off-road in places’) course will take runners on a muddy, rocky, rooted journey through the stunning hills and trails around Drummond Hill and the banks of the Tay.
According to the organisers, the event will be full of ‘proper challenging off-road running’, they continue: "We have planned a route that gives you the challenge, the views and a mix of forest and river bank trails that will deliver an unforgettable trail running experience."
A must-do race in its own right, the Drummond Hill 10K Trail Run is actually one of three events that make up the two-day-long Aberfeldy Multi-Sport Festival (19-20 August). ‘Go Swim Loch Tay’ takes place on the Saturday while on the Sunday those keen can sign up for the Aberfeldy Middle Distance Triathlon.
Set in the beautiful Highland Perthshire region, the triathlon (1900m swim, 90K bike, 21K run) takes in the cool, clear waters of Loch Tay and the challenging roads over the shoulder of Schiehallion, a circumnavigation of the wild Loch Rannoch.
Organisers told runABC: “We set out to create a multi-sports festival that has something for everyone. The Drummond Hill 10K contributes in many ways to fulfilling that ambition. We believe we’ve created a proper trail running experience for our competitors.
"In recent years we’ve seen a huge increase in people taking part in activities that take us back to nature – open water swimming, off road cycling and trail running in particular – and I’m sure the trail run will continue to thrive on the back of this.”
