Devon Trail Races water hazard

One Yap or Two?

It's dogs first at the Devon Trail Races...

Sportiva Events, based in Totnes, promotes top-quality endurance events in the South West, with a mission to: "Deliver excellent endurance sports events to a wide range of ages and abilities. Our events include triathlons and duathlons, open water swimming, gravel and road cycling sportives, and road and trail running races."

The Devon Trail Races are scheduled for Saturday 2 November 2024 and include a trail half marathon and 10K, plus Canicross races over the same distances. The 10K is a single lap and the half marathon is twice round. We understand the Canicross courses are one yap or two yaps!

The event has relocated from its previous home at Bicton College, Woodbury Common to Roadford Lake Activity Centre, Broadwoodwidger, Lifton, Devon, PL16 0JL. The new venue is situated on the Devon/Cornwall border, just five minutes off the A30, between Launceston and Okehampton. There you will find the spectacular Roadford Lake, nestled amongst the beautiful surroundings of Wolf Valley, with the dramatic tors of Dartmoor as its backdrop.

Although the circular lakeside walking trail is less than 4K long, race Director Ben Tisdall has mapped out a route that displays the best views and adds sufficient distance in a compact area to enable the races to be held on one or two laps. The Canicross competitors (harnesses must be used) will start each race 60 seconds ahead of those without dogs to avoid any tangles. The 10K competitors start 20 minutes after the half marathon, which goes off at 11:00am.

Last year's Devon Trail Races also included a 5K option and there were 350 competitors. The most popular distance was 10K with 144 finishers and was won outright by Amy Jones (South West Road Runners, 45:22). The first male was Robert Gisbourne (Stratford upon Avon AC, 45:30). The half marathon winners were Adam Tango Holland (Tavistock AC, 1:24:54) and Emma Bailey (Bad Tri, 1:46:12) as 136 finished in just over three hours.

Devon Trail Races boast electronic chip timing, fully marked and marshalled courses, feed station, water station, custom finishers bottle opener medal, finish line beer or soft drink, free number transfer if unable to run, category prizes, and spot prizes via a free to join Strava club.
