Don't miss out on the 2020 Tour of Tameside - go virtual
Entries are now for the Virtual Tour of Tameside, a four stage running challenge to be completed by Sunday 14 June. Complete one stage or all four stages of this virtual alternative to this hugely popular multi-stage event.
The legendary Tour of Tameside is organised by The Running Bee Foundation and has become a ‘must do’ event in any runner’s diary. It was all set for another successful year when the coronavirus outbreak struck, causing the organisers to postpone it until 10-13 June 2021.
Fans won’t be disappointed as The Running Bee Foundation has launched a virtual version that contains all the elements of the actual Tour created by Dr Ron Hill in 1983. It is sponsored by Sports Tours International, Active Tameside, Davies Sports and Tameside MBC.
As in the actual event there are four stages to the virtual contest:
- Stage 1 X-Trail - 10K
- Stage 2 Hell on the Fell - 6 miles
- Stage 3 NHS Hero Half Marathon - 13.1 miles
- Stage 4 Dr Ron Hill Hyde 7 – 7 miles
Runners select individual stages or if they are up for a challenge, complete the entire Tour or 32 miles in total. Everyone will receive a Virtual Tour of Tameside medal.
The organisers ask participants to adhere to government, Tameside Borough Council and NHS guidelines regarding outdoor exercise. Stay local, maintain a two-metre distance from others and wash your hands for 20 seconds afterwards.
Profits from entries will be available via grant applications for charities, community groups and projects promoting health and wellbeing in Tameside.
