Dark Skies Kielder

A Shot In The Dark!

Take part in a magical festival of trail running at the Original Dark Skies Run...

British summertime is over and we now have the long, dark days of winter ahead of us. For some that's enough to start contemplating hibernation, for others it's an excuse to take part in some super-fun night-time running. The darker the better eh?

If the latter is your bag, then Trail Outlaws' Dark Skies Run at Kielder races are certainly worth checking out. Taking place next year at Kielder Water and Forest Park, runners can choose from three distances over three nights (17-19 March) - a 10 mile event on the Friday, 26.5 miler on the Saturday or a 14 mile race on the Sunday.

These races provide runners with an 'out of this world' opportunity to run and race under one the darkest night skies in Europe! Kielder was awarded gold tier Dark Sky Park status by the International Dark Skies association in December 2013, making it the perfect venue for the ultimate starlit running challenge.

The 10 mile night run starts and finishes at Hawkhirst and involves an anti-clockwise loop of the infamous Bull Crag. The 14 mile night run heads anti-clockwise along the north shore of Kielder Water and finishes at Hawkhirst Scout Camp. The 26.5 miler is a clockwise loop of the entire Kielder Water.

If you are up for a challenge there are options to run the Dark Skies Bronze (10 & 14 events), Silver (10 & 26.5 events) or Gold (14 & 26.5 events). Or you could maybe take on the ultimate challenge of the Dark Skies Triple Platinum which would see you take on the 10, 14 & 26.5 events.

A spokesperson from Trail Outlaws said: "We are passionate about staging fun, inclusive and challenging trail runs in the darkest of places. That's why we have hand picked Britain's most beautiful Dark Skies Parks to host our events. Whether you're new to the trails or a regular, come and try our Dark Skies Run events for a new and unique challenge. We promise you won't regret it."
