New Tibberton Trot 10K

Community in action at new Tibberton Trot 10K

Sunday’s (15 September) Tibberton Trot 10K was an example of ‘people power’ as the local community came together for this new event where the ‘Marmite Field’ was a topic for discussion...

The new Tibberton Trot 10K was the brainchild of Martin and Debbie Murdoch and 17 months in the planning. It was initially created to fundraise for the local church; however, the scale of the project required extra pairs of hands and they approached the people of Tibberton to see if they could help. Martin Murdoch also approached Newport & District RC to ask for advice which they willingly provided and added the race to their events diary.

The 10K and children’s 1K Fun Run was held at Tibberton C of E School whose PTA had a stall along with the Toddler group and the Village Hall committee and served refreshments on the day. The volunteer community shop opened for additional hours to generate extra revenue for the event.

At 11am, over 130 runners started from the school field that was also used for the finish. They followed a scenic route on country lanes and bridle paths around Tibberton, Shropshire and a team of 50 marshals along with motivational KM markers kept them going. The runners headed back to the school and along a 750m loop on the field that zig zagged towards the finish – nicknamed the ‘Marmite Field’ by Martin Murdoch as you either loved it or hated it.

Stephen Corbishley of Tipton Harriers won the first Tibberton Trot 10K in 34:14; Holly Bishop was the female winner in 46:06.

All 10K runners received an eco-friendly medal, goody bag and a voucher for a free drink at the Sutherland Arms pub.

The organisers donated race profits towards local groups and have started planning for next year’s race.
