Chester Ticks All the Boxes!

Chester has plenty to offer those looking for a long-distance running event this autumn...

Finish your 2024 race season running at one of the friendliest and best marathon events in the UK. You'll be pleased to hear that there is still time to enter the MBNA Chester Marathon and Metric Marathon which is set to take place on Sunday 6 October this year.

Bursting with big event personality and the friendliest vibe, there are many reasons to run the sixth biggest marathon in the UK. One of these has to be the fantastic route which is ladened with landmarks and historic cityscapes (including the UK’s second most photographed clock after Big Ben!).

Because it is a dual event, you can choose your distance. The MBNA Chester Marathon (26.2 miles) or the unique MBNA Chester Metric Marathon (26.2 km/16.3 miles) which is the longest running metric event in the UK and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Not only is the route full of character it’s a fast course which is ideal for all levels of runners. Organisers say: "Our pacers are the friendliest and highly motivated crew to ensure you enjoy the best possible race experience." For extra atmosphere the MBNA Chester Marathon is the host of the England Age Group Athletics Championships and a qualifier for the Abbot World Majors.

Every great marathon has a memorable start and finish, and nothing beats the atmosphere at Chester! The race begins at Chester Racecourse, and runners will enjoy a breathtaking spectator-lined finish with the beautiful back drop of Chester Cathedral.

If you are thinking of making it a family day out, then why not enter any little ones into the MBNA Chester Mini Marathon? Let's do all we can to inspire the next generation of runners.
