Frisby Returns To Chelmsford
Chelmsford Race Weekend was a super success with 2,000 in action...
The 2024 Chelmsford CM Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K – collectively known as Chelmsford Race Weekend – was another super sell-out success at 2,600 sign-ups, with 1,260 of those finishing the longest event in 3:23:08 on Sunday 3 March 2024.
This was the fourth edition of Chelmsford Race Weekend – once again supported by event partner Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) – held on fully closed roads from the city centre base at ARU. The flagship half marathon, with a total elevation of less than 100 metres, follows a route along Parkway, High Bridge, Essex Yeomanry Way, Chelmer Village Way and through Chelmer Valley Nature Reserve to the finish at ARU.
This year's half marathon champion was Andrew Risk (Colchester Harriers, 1:12:45) from London Heathside's Greg Whiteley (1:13:39) and Rhys Powell (SHAEF Shifters, 1:14:36). The top trio in the women's race were last year's runner-up Nicole Frisby (Springfield Striders, 1:26:00), Lauren Longhurst (Mornington Chasers, 1:26:12) and Hollie Boyd (Leigh on Sea Striders, 1:31:19).
There were 522 finishers in the 10K in 2:09:50. Ryan Prout (Springfield Striders, 35:32) led the way and Emma Burgess – ninth overall – of Colchester Harriers took the women's race in 40:05.
The 5K winners were Olmo Velayos Hernando (Southwark AC, 17:14) and the overall runner-up Sophia Harvey (Colchester & Tendring, 20:23) as 128 finished in 1:02:08.
All three races start together at 9:00am and careful on-course marshalling ensures that everyone follows the correct route, with bespoke course distance markers. Gourmet Street Foods and My Little Drinks Van kept supporters sated back at ARU. Pacers were provided for the half marathon at 15-minute intervals from 1:30 to 3:00 and bananas and chocolate were waiting for all finishers.
Entries are already available for 2025 and were on sale at half price for 24 hours after this year's race. For full race details and 2025 entries go to Chelmsford CM Half Marathon here.
