Countdown Is On For Milngavie Memorial Race

Join Garscube Harriers for a meaningful and memorable evening in Milngavie...

The Charlie Kilshaw Memorial 5 Mile Run will make its return to the scenic Milngavie Reservoirs on Thursday 17 July, with the midweek evening race setting out from Nuffield Health in Milngavie. After several years away due to resurfacing works, the popular tribute event is back at its spiritual home, promising a heartfelt evening of running in memory of a much-loved club member.

A spokesperson from organisers, Garscube Harriers says: "This race is held in honour of Charlie Kilshaw and celebrates the life and spirit of a runner who embodied the values of Garscube Harriers. A member from 2000 until 2012, Charlie was known not for blistering pace, but for his warmth, his support for fellow runners and his unwavering determination to give his all in every race. His kindness and enthusiasm left a lasting impact on all who knew him, making this annual race one of genuine significance to the Garscube community."

Both junior and senior runners will compete over the same five-mile course, which involves two loops around the Milngavie Waterworks, finishing near the James M Gale memorial. The event is open to Garscube Harriers members as well as their friends and family, and this year visitors from other clubs are also welcomed to take part in what is always a special night of remembrance, camaraderie and friendly competition.

As ever, the race will raise funds for Garscube Harriers’ chosen charities, with all proceeds split between them. A charity bake sale will also take place on the evening, adding to the community atmosphere and giving participants another way to contribute to these worthy causes.
